This festive season has ushered in a windfall for the city traffic police department. The month of October witnessed the festivals of Dussehra, Laxmi Puja and Diwali that brought forth the maximum traffic violations, and in turn raked in a record collection of Rs 37.96 lakh through traffic challans. This is close to double the average monthly collection of around Rs 20 lakh. What the figure suggests is that despite efforts to make people aware of traffic rules, it seems to be having very little impact.
