Giving priority to preventive healthcare, the state government on Thursday changed the cadres of doctors to have block public health officer in each of the 314 blocks. The total number of doctor posts in the government rose by 1330 from 5389 to 6719.
There were no public health posts at the block-level earlier. Their sole work will be to meet public health challenges such as monitoring outbreak of diseases, controlling dengue, malaria, diarrhoea rather than discharging routine patient care.The government has earmarked 578 posts of doctors as public health posts at various levels.
