Tourists in Odisha may not face problem in finding a clean toilet near tourist spots across the state. The water and sanitation wing of Panchayati Raj department will maintain toilets in all tourist spots across the state.
“Constructing toilets is not a problem but maintaining them is a major problem for tourism department. So we had talks with the panchayati raj department, who will maintain hygiene and sanitation of toilets near tourist spots across the state,” said tourism director Nitin Jawale.
Denying the allegations of basic infrastructure and amenities at tourist spots of the state, Jawale said, “Almost all tourist spots in the state have toilet and drinking water facilities near it. Around 20% of the state budget is spent on sanitation. But for maintaining the toilets we need support of the local community, which unfortunately not very pro-active in this matter.”
The water and sanitation wing of Panchayati Raj department will not only maintain the toilets but they will also generate revenue from these complexes. “We are working on the modalities and very soon over 100 toilets will be handed over to the department, which will be ready by the onset of the next tourist season,” said Jawale.
