On a stretch of beach where the Rushikulya River meets the Bay of Bengal, thousands of olive ridley turtles arrive to nest around February and March. The sandy beach disappears under glistening domes stretching as far as the eye can see. Each wave crashing to shore carries a few hundred turtles. Using their strong flippers they slowly make their way up the beach, leaving a distinctive trail in the sand. As soon as she finds a spot, the mother turtle begins scooping out the sand with her flippers and depositing her eggs, sometimes over 100 of them.
