US-based Semtech Corporation today opened a new design centre here with a view to be a technological partner in the proposed smartcity project in Bhubaneswar.
The new design centre is part of the company’s expansion and capacity increasing programme, said Roger Levinson, Vice-president, System Innovation Group, Semtech Corporation.
On the company’s proposal for Odisha, Levinson said it was very keen to be a technological partner in the Bhubaneswar smartcity project as aims to invest Rs 100 crore in coming years.
With its large trained resource pool from eastern India, renowned universities, good infrastructure and a “very supportive government”, Bhubaneswar provides a unique combination of advantages among the country’s tier II cities for Semtech, he said.
Semtech’s presence in Bhubaneswar will act as a catalyst for the growth of semiconductor industry and create an ecosystem of high-end engineering in Odisha, he added.
“India remains a key component of our business growth plans and this significant expansion of our facility is affirmation of the value Semtech sees in Odisha and India.
The company aims to employ two-third of its human resource capacity in Odisha and has targeted to recruit from the state as well as from others in the eastern zone,” said company’s senior director Niraj Mathur.
“Over the last two years, we have added extensive advanced semiconductor development capabilities to our Bhubaneswar engineering team and have also initiated an IT group.
“The team has established itself as a center of excellence by driving world-class innovation in electronics,” Mathur added.
Semtech Corporation is a leading supplier of high-quality analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products.
