The annual flagship event of XIMB, XPRESSIONS 2016 is the biggest Management – Cultural fest of Eastern India. Spread across a period of 3 days, it has always been a mix of events ranging from business events that tests the business acumen of students to the cultural events that encourages students to explore their interest and passion. Among these events, there are a few which act as the stepping stones of success for every aspiring MBA graduate. Those are the business events organized by the various functional committees of XIMB.
There are seven business events organized by the various associations of XIMB namely Nirnay, Case In Point, Maven, Parikrama, Case connect, Mpower, and Trade Wars.
NIRNAY is an in-house business simulation game developed by the Operations Committee of XIMB, X-OPS for the holistic development of a budding operations manager. The dynamic nature of the game not only requires the contestant to be abreast of the basic concepts of Operations Management but also regarding the changes happening in real world. NIRNAY has molded into a shape taking in consideration the increasing constraints and complexities in todays’ scenarios making it critical running the business
XIMAHR, the HR association of XIMB conducts its flagship competitive event, Case in Point – CIP. In the preliminary round, the participants send an abstract of their solutions to a HR centric case provided to them. Shortlisted teams compete against each other in the final round which is conducted during Xpressions in the XIMB campus. An esteemed panel comprising of faculties and industry professionals pertaining to the HR Domain have been the judges in all the previous year editions of CIP and it continues to be a great platform for all budding HR professionals to showcase and hone their skills applying them to realistic cases forcing teams to focus on a multitude of perspectives while proposing a solution.
Organized by the Consulting and strategy Consortium of XIMB, CONSTRAT, Maven tests the best brains of B-schools in their ability to deliver practical and innovative solutions in the area of business development and strategy. The preliminary round consists of an online quiz competition on general management and business consulting while the final round is a case study competition which brings in front the thought process of the team while dealing through a virtual case depicting realistic situations.
X-SYS, the Systems Association of XIMB, hosts two kinds of events thus enriching the participants with the diversity a B-school can provide. The first being Parikrama, a national level online treasure hunt which acts as a mixture of a test to judge the participant’s quizzing skills combined with their analytical acumen to figure out the underlying thing and connect the dots to find the answer. The second is a National Level Case study based competition, Case Connect which is designed to test the skills of the participant in the fields of management education, allowing them to design innovative solutions based on factors like cost, time, feasibility etc.
MPower, the flagship event of MAXIM, the Marketing Association of XIMB is a national level case study based competition designed to test the marketing skills of the participants as they strive to provide unique innovative solutions to real life problems. The event is held in two rounds – an online quiz and a live case study. Last year, Mpower was held in association with Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) as part of the “Smart City Challenge.”
Tradewars conducted by the Finance association of XIMB, X-FIN is a comprehensive online trading simulation that provides an opportunity to trade in various equities across major Indian stock markets on real time quotes. It builds up various financial strategies among participants exposing them to the nuances of trading and investing with the highest earner emerging as the winner.
In addition to the above mentioned events, X-Quizzite, the quizzing association of XIMB and Speak up, the oratory club of XIMB every year conducts Inquizzite – annual open general quiz gathering huge participations from avid quizzers across the country, while six teams battling out in the finals and Model United Nations XIMB-MUN seeking to simulate the proceedings of United Nations through role-playing delegates respectively. This year, Inquizzite has roped in one of the best Quiz masters in the country Major Chandrakant Nair a.k.a Captain which has made the concept all the more interesting whereas MUN will give a platform to sharpen ones debating and diplomacy skills while discussion on unprecedented set of problems and crisis plaguing across the various geographies of the world.
These business events serve as a great opportunity for all the upcoming managers of the country to solve problems by setting up a virtual environment of the real-life competition they might face in the corporate world and thus have successfully garnered attention from the top-notch B-schools pan India, continuing to have participants every year from IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Kolkata, XLRI Jamshedpur, MDI Gurgaon, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Ranchi to name a few.
