In continuation of the livelihood programmes under Project Ajeevika, Essar Foundation has started a project on mushroom cultivation in Odisha. Thirteen members of a local self-help group (SHG), Sahara Sundari have been selected for the same and have participated in the mushroom cultivation training project on 15 October, 2015. A model plan for the cultivation of mushrooms with commercial viability and bankability has been prepared in partnership with Sahara Sundari Women SHG of Chakradharpur Village, keeping in view the agro-climatic conditions and other related aspects for successful cultivation of the mushroom and its subsequent marketing.
An exposure visit has also been planned for trainees to a local farm, Ratha Spawn & Mushroom Production Farm at Puuting, Khadopadia, Jagatsinghpur for enhanced learning. The SHG members will start work on cultivation very soon.
