The Odisha State Works Department is likely to invite bids for the development of the Rourkela-Jagdalpur Biju Expressway covering 656 kms in October 2015 for approximately Rs 32 billion, reported Business Standard.
The Phase I of the project will include the construction of four-lanes covering 254 kms and two-lanes covering 402 kms. The Phase II will include the development of four-lane highways running for 258 kms.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik said that the Biju Expressway project will improve connectivity of four districts in the state including Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Bargarh and Jharsuguda with four KBK districts including Koraput, Kalahandi, Nawrangpur, and Nuapada, among others.
The project will also help boost the region’s trade, commerce, agriculture and social sector, added the chief minister.
