Upendra Tripathy Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) inaugurated, the largest solar project in the eastern state of Odisha, a 500 KWp Rooftop Solar PV Project on Sunday.
KISS, which already has ultra modern facilities like WIFI sustems, CCTV cameras, BIO-GAS plant, drinking water treatment plant, sewerage treatment plant, solar water heating system, green environment appreciation point.
By inaugurating this roof-top solar project (the largest in Odisha); it has become the first of its kind among educational institutions in the country.
The project was installed under the grid-connected rooftop solar program of Solar Energy Corporation of India, a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, which offers 30 % subsidy on the project cost.
The project, built at a cost of about Rs 4 crore, completed within span of 7 to 8 months will generate more than 7 lakh units of electricity reducing CO2 emission by 650 tonnes and will supply solar power to the institute during day time for the next 25 years.
