Idea Cellular launched 4G services in Odisha expanding its LTE services to eight circles and plans to launch Maharashtra & Goa and North East by March this year.
India’s third largest telecom service provider said in a statement that by June 2016, Idea’s 4G footprint will cover 750 cities across 10 circles. The number would rise to 12 circles after spectrum trading transaction with Videocon gets completed.
Idea Cellular has launched 4G services in four circles of South India – Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu & Chennai – and three in North India – Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.
In Odisha, 12 major cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Baleswar, Jharsuguda and Jatni will be covered besides 18 major towns such as Sambalpur, Brahmapur and Raurkela by March.
Idea Cellular currently holds 1800 MHz 4G spectrum in these 10 circles which cover 50% of telecom market but over 60% of Idea’s gross revenue.
Additionally, the company signed an agreement with Videocon Telecommunications Limited for acquiring ‘Right to Use’ 1800 MHz spectrum through spectrum trading agreement in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh (West).
