“Xpressions” is the annual fest of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) and
has taken a magnanimous form over the years. This year, the 3 day extravaganza was
scheduled to be held from the 7th to the 9th of November, with the promise of being bigger
and grander than ever before. The techno-cultural fest comprised of the most exhilarating
and challenging business simulation games, cultural events, quizzes in addition to a host of
other fun-filled events.
The preparation for this mammoth event commenced almost 100 days before the final
event, thus manifesting the enormity and the grandeur of the festival. Several months of
preparation goes into it every year and this year the students pushed even harder to make it
a colossal success, as the scale of the event and the expectations were already sky high with
“Coke Studio” performing on the concluding night, ”Celeblitz”. This year, we also had a
headlining band performing, thanks to the relentless efforts of the organizing team. To add
to the already impressive repertoire, we had VH1 Supersonic performing on the opening
day.
MAXIM- the marketing association of XIMB boasts of yet another successful year. Like every
year, this year as well, MAXIM succeeded in adding new flavours to Xpressions, 2014 with its
flagship event – MPower attaining new heights. Mpower is a case study event designed to
test the marketing acumen of budding marketers. Mpower,2014 was sponsored by Oriental
Insurance Company Limited-one of the leading insurance companies of India. The case
study, which constituted of a problem witnessed by every industry today, was taken up with
great vigour and seriousness and the event saw massive participation from students of XIMB
as well as from students of other premiere B-Schools like IIM-A, VGSOM, XLRI, IIM-Shillong,
NMIMS, etc. The judges for the competition were A. K. Pattnaik, S. K. Biswal and R. P. Blah
from OICL. The judges from the sponsoring company were highly impressed with the myriad
of ideas that were brought to the platter and the way they were presented by the
participants. They were moved by the simplicity, practicality and feasibility of the solutions
presented by the young managers and applauded the sincere efforts put in by the
participants and their respective teams as a whole.
A team from XIMB was awarded the first prize with the team from IIM-A bagging the
runners up position. The winning team also stands a chance to be invited to the
headquarters of the sponsoring company to further the discussion on implementation of
the plan, thus making Mpower a grand success. The very purpose of MPower is to provide a
platform for the ideas that are nested somewhere deep within our minds but never come to
the forefront because of lack of exposure. The goal was successfully achieved.
