Manipur Hockey (MAN) and Hockey Gangpur Odisha (GAN) clashed in the final showdown of the 6th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship (A-Division), organised by the Hockey Manipur under the aegis of Hockey India. Odisha defeated Manipur 3-2.
The first goal of the match was scored by Amandeep Lakra of Gangpur Odisha in the 15th minute. Manipur went into the half time break with a 2-1 lead with Dipu finding the back of the net on two consecutive occasions in the 18th and the 21st minute respectively.
However Gangpur Odisha’s Sudeep Chirmako equalised in the 47th minute while Manip Kerketta scored the winning goal through a penalty strike in the 68th minute of the game.
Meanwhile Chandigarh secured the third place after defeating Jharkhand 6-2.
In their run up to the final, Manipur thrashed Jharkhand 4-1 while Gangpur Odisha defeated Chandigarh 2-1 in the semifinal matches played on Saturday.
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and functionaries of Hockey India attended the closing function of the championship which was participated by a total of 16 teams from across the country.
