Payal Baral of Odisha won a gold medal in the IIIrd South Asian Karate Championships at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, Saturday. The Utkal Karate School student, Payal won the yellow metal in the junior kata event. Payal had qualified for the event after emerging champion in the National Junior Karate Championships. She had also won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Championships earlier in the year.
