Tampara, a wetland near Chatrapur in Ganjam district on the National Highway 5, will get a facelift of Rs 33.44 crore under the Centre’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme.
A five-member expert team visited Tampara yesterday to prepare a blueprint for the wetland’s development. The 5.8km-long and 670 metre-wide wetland, earlier used for water sports and boating, is under the management of the tourism department.
Under Swadesh Darshan Scheme, eco-cottage, bio-toilet, sports complex, beach trekking, water park, water sports, tourist reception centre, solid waste management, solar street lighting, and small solar lights are to be developed on the other bank of the Tampara lake where one finds swaying casuarinas and cashew grooves, said Ganjam tourist officer Sanatan Naik.
