The council of the municipal corporation today adopted a resolution to construct a modern market complex adjacent to an existing one in Unit-I.
A proposal to this effect has been sent to the state government. The market complex will be constructed over 2.99 acres and will accommodate 2,000 vendors.
A senior officer of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that once the state government gives its nod to the council’s proposal to build the market and tenders are floated, it would take two years to complete the project.
The proposed market complex will be a five-storey structure with two basement floors dedicated to parking of vehicles. The three floors above the basement will consist of shops selling vegetables, groceries, household consumer durables and other products presently available at the market.
