We went exploring the BaliJatra 2017 that unfolded on the banks the river Mahanadi in Cuttack. Our friend Rachit Kirteeman(a.k.a Grumpy Chef) was instrumental in helping us make the most of this spectacle of an event. We witnessed the mesmerizing tradition of Boita Bandana that happens on the day of Karthik Purnima. Bālijātrā (also Bōita Bandāṇa) literally means A Voyage to Bali. This festival is held at Gadagadia Ghata of the Mahanadi river in the city of Cuttack in Odisha, to mark the day when ancient Sadhabas(Oriya mariners) would set sail to distant lands of Bali, as well as Java, Sumatra, Borneo (all in Indonesia), and Sri Lanka for trade and cultural expansion. They sailed in large vessels called Boitas. Watch us, as we explore this carnival of gigantic proportions and eat our way through the unique delacies of Odisha like Thunka Puri, Mudhi Mutton and a lot more.
